Keeping Yourself Accountable

keeping yourself accountable

I shouldn’t even be releasing this blog post but you know what, it’s honestly very important for both of us and yes, I mean you and me.

We need to keep ourselves accountable right NOW.

I have been in product creation mode for a few days and I have discovered plenty of things that went under planned.

I did use a huge mind map to create my product but guess what?

As soon as I was recording slides and the how-to’s, I was getting new ideas that were completely in tune with the training so I had to include them.

This of course, resulted in a much bigger course than I have thought in the first place and now I’m not seeing when this is going to end.

But fear not.

I’m still repeating myself not to include stuff that is not related to what I’m trying to teach and while yes, the training is getting a bit more extensive but I want to deliver a very cool and complete training so I’m OK with that.

Keeping Accountable Video

I shot this video at almost 2:00 am today and even though it is a bit long I do talk about the things I have bumped into while creating this training course.

If you commented on my previous post, you may want to check it out since I did mention you guys a little bit but if you don’t have time for it, I can understand as well.

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbtI4mSly0Q’]

So that is it!

Conclusion

I have been working a LOT on the wordpress training videos and even though I don’t have  an idea how am I going to sell it, when, why or at how much, I’m pretty sure this training is going to deliver big time!

So stay aware for this, I still don’t have a plan for the launch either but I do know I’m going to give some review copies away so you might be interested in what I have to offer.

If you don’t want to miss out on this, sign up to the blog (upper right corner) and you may get a free ticket as well, who knows?

Take care and speak soon my friend!

Sergio, I always enjoy reading your posts.
They are always honest and thought provoking.

It will be interesting to see where your marathon product making program actually ends.

I was reading a comment by Jason Fladien the other day where he was saying that he produces products to solve one particular problem – no more and no less.
I can certainly see the benefit in that but a compendium resource is another thing altogether.
Good luck with it. And remember – it has to stop somewhere!
    Or don’t you think so?

Hey Dave, thanks for the great compliment on my posts and yeah man, this definitely has to stop somewhere! I definitely don’t want to spend all my life creating this product, that’s for sure haha

Man I’m starting to think I need to study more about that Jason Fladien dude, those are really great ideas!

Unfortunately (or maybe luckily for whoever buys my training) I am already solving several issues on my course and if I try to modify it now, I’m just going to end up messing the current flow that it already has.

Thanks for stopping by Dave and there’s a deadline set already, third week on this month! ;)

    Hi Sergio,
Your product seems to be coming along nicely so don’t stress the fact that you are finding new stuff to add and old stuff to take away.

It might even be that you have a number of products already. Perhaps a “lite” version and a full pro version of whatever.

In any event keep on going and I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

    P.

I think the problem is that I went too deep with details. At this point, I already lost track if the training is being too long or not, I think I’m barely past the middle of the contents and I’m still not on the ACTUAL idea for the product which is having an authority blog.

I already decided to place some videos under advanced coaching and some others under extras and not announced bonus videos.

That way it won’t feel that long although everything I’m recording is highly crucial to be followed.

I guess I’ll find out when I put it out there and the first people go through it.

Thanks for the suggestions Patrick, I think I’m definitely going to have at least two or three different levels for getting as much as possible from the course and me as well.

    Hi’ya Sergio

Thanks for taking the time to present your ” keeping accountable video ” – I enjoyed it a lot – I think that lots of us are in the same boat by spending most of our time working on the easier stuff when we would be so much better off focusing our time and efforts on the more beneficial difficult time consuming stuff .

Do yourself a favour and get an early night tomorrow .

    Best regards – Steve

      Reply Reply September 5, 2012

That’s exactly what I was thinking Steve!

Starting with the most difficult stuff first but for some reason I decided to do the easy stuff and kept looking for easy to-do tasks instead of attacking the harder ones.

I’m glad you enjoyed the video, I wasn’t going to publish it but since I had already recorded it, I thought “why not?”.

Thanks for stopping by Steve and yeah, I definitely could use some rest but I’ll keep working though. ;-)

I’m still having trouble with your RSS feed so I keep forgetting to come back and visit!

Wow my man, sounds as though you’re doing some great stuff. I’m looking forward to the end result.

Get some sleep now though, you look tired mate!

      Hey Tim, thanks man!

I’m trying my best with the training so maybe that’s why it has been sucking the life out of me these days. It’s definitely something that will be worth checking out though… or at least that’s what I think!

About the RSS feed that’s odd since I already have new subscribers signing in, you can check out these feeds and maybe try again:

      Original Feed: http://marketingwithsergio.com/feed/
      Feedburner: http://feeds.feedburner.com/marketingwithsergio

I hope that gets it sorted.

Thanks for stopping by Tim and yeah, I would love to rest but I’m definitely not going to stop until this thing is done, cheers! ;-)

    Sergio,
    Great minds etc.
    Scrambled Eggs Syndrome
how to get rid of it.
Buy one of those old fashioned Yellow Legal Pads (with lines on it)
    Make an outline
    for 1 product
    work on listed Items only
I wanna add this to its…..put on the memo pad (new page)
    1. to add on to the original product AFTER you complete outline above or
    2. as bonus or in your membership area for this product (can have a free one..have heard is a great way to deliver products) or your Xtra Bonus Content… (scrambled eggs kicking in again)

Do it…. OUTLINE 1 that you started with!
    down and dirty
    FINISH
Then and only then, back to the Memo Pad

P.S. I listened and watched the VIDEO while compling the above…….
    OH MY Goodness
    SCRAMBLED EGGS SYNDROME SEVERE
am going to FB Artagene and send you a PM…..
will solve a lot of problems…..how to sell, deliver etc……
Plus you gave me some good advise this video is 12 minutes
you told me to keep it short 3 minutes or less!!
    Go To Bed
Take a Walk on the Beach after your Cold Shower in the Morning.

Scrambled eggs syndrome? haha I’ve never heard that one before, I guess I have it?

You HAVE to do short videos Cararta, people get scared as soon as they see a video goes longer than the 2 or 3 minute mark.

The long videos I publish here are for the people that REALLY like me (which may not be a lot) but no one else. ;-)

PS. Thanks for your suggestions on Facebook, right now the membership site, intros, outros, logos, graphics, if I sell it on Clickbank, E-Junkie, JVZoo or if I do a special WSO launch whatever it is, right now it doesn’t matters.

What matters is finishing the product and I’ll worry about everything else when it’s time, not right now. ;-)

Love that hair style of yours ;)

Couldn’t watch the video as I am in college right now (our library as my laptop gave up on me recently). Hopefully, I will be able to come back to the video and watch it is (next time, I really should bring headphones to college!).

But, so far great. Product creation mode, huh?

I like it. Getting things done!

Great ;) WP videos, you could sell them as there are many WP newbies out there – how you have any special thing in there? I know you yourself make the product special, but the customers need something special right?

How about short videos? Generally, these WP tutorial videos tend to be long (great, because some go in depth, but many newbies may not be willing to spend that much time into watching those videos).

    • Sergio Félix

      Reply Reply September 6, 2012

LOL thanks for the hair compliment Jeevan.

Those are two great questions man, the training will be special since it’s ME doing it and honestly, you don’t get to see many wordpress courses created by a systems engineer, that should be special enough right?

In case that wasn’t enough… I’m including training on Thesis, StudioPress, Headway Themes and a few other themes but this will only be available as an upsell.

There will also be training on creating a web developing company (including how to use a hosting reseller account effectively for clients and flipping websites) but this will also be available as an upsell only.

I could really go on and on but I don’t want to give all the cool things before it’s time but does it sounds special already or not yet? (there’s still a LOT more than that)

For your second questions on short videos? You got it man!

Right now I have recorded about 50+ videos (and still counting) and the reason for this is because I hate long videos too!

My training won’t waste ONE second from my students’ precious time as it is designed to be delivered in small chunks of content.

i.e. You won’t get a 1-hour video on plugins… instead, you will get one video PER plugin so if there’s anything you already are familiar with or maybe somethng you don’t like, you can just skip that video and move on with the rest.

I haven’t really calculated the videos length since I haven’t done any video editing yet but I’m guessing the videos will range from 2 to 5 minutes and there are a few videos that are near 10 minutes or 11 minutes (max) but only because I had to explain and demonstrate many things.

Oh and by the way, I still haven’t seen ONE wordpress training that delivers the contents like this one will (or maybe I haven’t seen enough?)

In the end I don’t know if all this will be special or not, I just know that I keep receiving e-mails with very basic wordpress questions and I just want to be able to help them out in a more formal way.

I plan to get back to coding as soon as I have a more stable income and that means I may start developing wordpress themes and plugins.

If everything goes well, that might translate into an academy for wordpress fans in which they can learn how to code their own plugins, create their first themes, get training on web development tools and some languages such as php, mysql, css, javascript, jquery and a few others.

Like I said, I don’t know where this might end up but I’ll give it my best.

Thanks for stopping by man and hope you get another laptop soon, it sucks to be computer-less in these times! ;-)

Hahaha ;) That’s special enough for me. Well, the fact that a friend makes it is good enough for me, but hey that’s not what our clients are looking for, is it? ;)

        Now, that’s over delivering ;) I like that :D

Oh, boy, something tells me this is big ;) All these resources in one product? Amazing!

That’s good – short and specific. Of course, in depth information is great too (but, people these days aren’t willing to spend their time like they used to).

Since I haven’t seen many WP videos, can’t tell. What makes your videos different (Apart from your personality, voice, content and style – ah, have I said everything? :P).

It will be ;) Just these small details tell me that it will be ;)

That’s cool. I have some great plugin ideas. Want some? Thought about making a better comment notification plugin that manages all our comments within WP (doesn’t store the comments on WP, instead brings the urls up and shows if there has been a reply).

Now, that’s cool. Academy! Wow ;)

        Good Luck, Sergio ;)

I thought it does, but it’s way better now (with time management). Without a laptop at home, I am forced to do all my college work at home – using tablet and my mom’ laptop – and all my blogging at college, during breaks between classes. This keeps me focused, way more than I expected (And I am getting things done, without much distractions!

Glad to hear you like this Jeevan.

I understand that people want the content as fast as possible but I’ve also thought about information overload and overwhelming whoever gets through the course.

Even having the short-lenght videos in place can be overwhelming for someone who just wants to put up a blog and learn with it so it’s going to be a challenge but I am aware of this.

Thanks for the plugin suggestion but I’m not thinking ahead of time, right now it’s first things first and finishing the training videos is crucial as I write this (still a long way to go but I’m getting there).

Good to see you’re doing fantastic with your time management skills, you are even writing longer comments here so it is definitely working lol

Take care Jeevan, thanks for stopping by and writing such a cool comment. ;-)

Yo Sergio! Think you are one of the top performers from QSC! I’ve been checking blogs of people and it’s been dead, I gotta say. However I was not surprised to see your blog buzzing with action. You seemed to have completely different fire in your belly right from the beginning. Keep up the good work!

I’ve been a little passive myself but still far more consistent than most. My blog is still looking for it’s form but as I’m going to keep it up anyway there’s no chance it would go completely dead at any point.

      Reply Reply September 6, 2012

Hey Jarkko my man, awesome to have you around here bro!

In the top QSC performers? Wow well that’s a great compliment (thank you!) but I think it’s a shame that so many just gave up on their blogs after the course was over.

I think it’s normal that most people are just going to give up and keep looking for something else but I believe that if they had the right direction, they would still be around.

The trick is to learn whatever you can and just keep pushing forward no matter what happens in the end.

Don’t worry if your blog still hasn’t found its own voice yet, it will develop itself with time but of course, you can also make that happen faster if you decide to focus on just one or two things.

Thanks for stopping by and good luck with your meditation routines man! ;-)

Hey Sergio! I watched your video until the end. I like you bro! hahahaha….

And I thought I saw Elvis on that video lol!

Don’t forget you can also sell your product as WSO on Warrior Forum but then you have to sell it cheap.
Like Patrick Griffin said, you might give a “lite” version and then the pro version as an upsell or OTO.

    Just a thought.

Anyway, it’s great that you gave yourselves a time limit. Note that you always can add the new stuff later and then inform your clients. I believe they might love you more as they know you always want to add more value to them.

Like for my latest product, I found out new information that I can add in so I just created a few new videos and sent them to my clients.

There’ll be always some new ideas and some new things that will come up, I GUARANTEED that.

So, decide to stop somewhere. You can always add them later bro.

    Cheers!

Hey Chetz, what’s up my man, I like you too! ;-)

Elvis? Hahaha oh my… I think I may need a haircut now.

That is AWESOME advice Chetz, I’m not sure but I think it may be released as a WSO first, get the ball rolling, get some actual students and fine-tune everything for a final release, maybe on Clickbank.

You are right about adding content later, I have seen this happen all the time and as long as the person is delivering the content and keeping his/her promise, I’m completely OK with special content being added later.

That gives me a lot of peace of mind because I want to be done with this already, hopefully I’ll release this in about 10 more days… yikes!

Thanks for stopping by and checking out the whole video, I really appreciate it man, speak soon! ;-)

    Hey Sergio,

I have a similar problem. My products always seem to change, get bigger and need new things everytime I get going. The way I decided to combat this was to create several small products that address one maybe two problems at a time that all relate to the large product I had in mind. Essentially you are building a big product by building each of these small products and thus not only get your big product done but make more on the way.

    Some thought for you.

    Cheers,
    Karson

      Reply Reply September 8, 2012

Hey Karson, what’s up my man?

Yeah bro, you know what, I think that this damn problem has something to do that it’s our first product… or at least it is for me.

The more I advance with the training, the more I want to bump my head into the wall.

My planning was seriously a complete disaster and it looked so simple on paper but what the hell, it’s been done already like that.

Splitting the training into smaller products is an idea that was already suggested and while I completely agree to do something like that, some modules wouldn’t be strong enough to be a product on their own.

I am DEFINITELY going to follow these suggestions about creating something easy that solves one or two things and call it a day.

It is way too stressing and if it doesn’t works out, it would have taken a LOT of time to create, that’s my biggest fear but like I said, I’m already at this point so let’s hope for the best!

Thanks a lot for stopping by bro and I wish you the best with your upcoming membership site. ;-)

You sound just like me Sergio!! I started but got distracted, but I have also been busy with other things. I have lots to do offline (not money making things), but important things and they will probably keep up for a few more weeks. Once the cooler weather settles in I will be back on it, but my problem is finding the funds to get it all done – started selling on eBay again, just so I could pay my bills – sales really threw me for a loop today – ha!

I feel exactly like you though – I have no idea about launching or any of that – I am in the same boat as you…..I guess we will get to it when it comes time – we have lots of people to go to for help.

Post it notes don’t work – you look at them and then you go and do something else – the only way they work is if you post them all over your house (yes I have done that!!) It will make you do it, believe me!!

Excuses – I think I fall into that category too – ha!

    What’s with the hair? LOL

Have a good one and good luck to you!!

Hey Linda, well one thing that made me laugh is when you mentioned the weather. Here is getting incredibly hot but honestly, it’s just an excuse for not getting the job done.

I do have a strong air conditioner but it’s freaking LOUD so whenever I am going to record I have to turn off the A/C and even the fan so I don’t get noises into the recording.

That means I end up soaked in sweat even if it just takes me 10 minutes to record a video but that is definitely not stopping me.

The Post-It notes have worked great for me. Even if I don’t do them immediately I end up being literally so annoyed to be watching them over and over so that makes me a bit more proactive lol

The hair… is well it was super hot like I just said :P

Thanks a million for the AWESOME mention on your blog post, going to have to check it out in detail and thanks (again) for stopping by.

Have a great start of week Linda! ;-)
