How To Change Your WordPress Theme

how to change your wordpress theme

On this quick post I want to show you how to change a wordpress theme.

I have included a quick video in which I highlight some basic actions such as uploading and installing a new wordpress theme.

And also how to switch or change your current wordpress themes as well.

This update is part of the Niche Site Experiment which I talked about on the past article called: First Niche Site Experiment

So without any further preparation, here’s the video on how to do it.

Video: How To Change Your WordPress Theme

On the video, I change from Optimize Press to the premium Amped Theme from StudioPress.

And I also mentioned the Prose Theme (also from StudioPress) which is the actual theme for the Marketing With Sergio blog.

Note: You need to have the Genesis Framework in order to make either the Amped or Prose theme work.

What Every Blogger Should Know

Every single person that owns a blog, needs to know how to upload, install and be able to switch/change their own wordpress themes.

And by “changing your own wordpress theme” I don’t mean customizing the theme, that’s another whole different thing.

Configuration and settings can be more daunting tasks but as far as changing a theme (as in switching to another) you should be able to do that by yourself.

The Blooper

I had a bit of a “blooper thing” before writing this article.

A few days ago, I was talking on twitter with Daniel Sumner about starting a niche site.

He suggested to check out Pat Flynn’s niche site page and I almost immediately replied that Ed Dale was amazing too and that he was more my style.

Pat was helpful enough to thank Dan for recommending him to me and even Pat himself gave me the direct link for his niche site resources page a few seconds afterwards.

Oops… I felt so embarrassed and quickly replied thanking Pat for it!

He just laughed so it actually ended up good and right now I’m checking out all the niche resources there.

Twitter Conversation

Here’s the image proof…

(I inverted the order of the tweets so you can see how they happened from top to down)

Conclusion

Never under estimate the big bloggers as they are always listening! ;-)

Hope the video helped you understand how easy it is to change a wordpress theme by yourself and hope to speak soon.

Take care,
Sergio

    Hi Sergio,
You are quite right that every blogger does need to know these basic things you suggest here.
One problem I have seen is that a lot of training videos are quite badly presented, especially where the person doing the training just rushes through the steps because it is second nature to them.

This is very frustrating because the very people who the video is aimed at are left scratching their heads and wondering what is going on.

As always your videos are clear and nicely narrated. Great job.

    Patrick.

      Hey Patrick,

Yeah, I have seen those kind of training videos too.

What I try to do on mine is say whatever I’m doing and explain briefly why.

That way if somebody is watching (or even just listening) the video, they can tell if this is something they already know or something they can even try for themselves without following me step by step.

It may or may not work, but I think it is the best way.

Thank you for the feedback man, greatly appreciated.

PS. Good luck with your ‘Beyond The Quotes’ book too! ;-)

Lol I thought Pat would be listening when I @patflynn in the tweet.

I have a couple if niche sites which do quite well. If anyone wants to get into niche site creation go for it.

Yes Sergio you never know when people are watching.

    Thanks for the mention :-D

      Hey Dan,

He certainly did man haha! (thanks)

I really don’t know how ‘well’ a niche site can do but I have heard some very appealing numbers from those so I really want to check what that is about with mine.

I’m always glad to give you some mention LUV here and special thanks to you for reminding me about Pat Flynn’s niche site duel.

Looks like I have a LOT to read! ;-)

      Thank you Dan!

I recorded this using the 1280×720 resolution.

It is best viewed in full screen mode but I have to figure out how people are watching my videos in order to create them in the appropriate resolution.

Which resolution do you normally use for your blog?

PS. Thank you for the kind comments! ;-)

Good job on showing people how to change a theme and how to add a child theme within Genesis.

Looks like Pat has a lot of useful content on his page – thanks for sharing that, Sergio!

Hope you have a great day!
    Talk to you soon!

      Thank you Linda,

And yes, Pat has definitely a LOT of information on niche sites, I have been working the whole day on mine and reading and digesting everything I can from his duel niche page.

Glad you liked it and hope you have a great day tomorrow as well. ;-)
