Real Time Web Analytics With Getclicky

If you are the proud owner of a little piece of the Internet…

Be that a website, a blog, a squeeze page (hint!) whatever it is, you should always be tracking your website analytics no matter what.

There’s no excuse for not checking your website traffic stats and let me tell you why…

You can’t improve what you can’t measure.

Simple as that.

I know it sounds logical but if nobody tells you about it, you might not know this so let’s dive in and let me show you how to do website tracking like I do it myself.

Understanding Traffic On A Website

For ease of explanation, let’s picture this quick scenario in which you have just created a blog.

You’ve just published your first posts and now you need some eyeballs on your blog so people can check out what your content is about.

The first thing you are told to do is to start driving traffic on the web.

You can use social media platforms such as twitter and facebook since they open the virality door for your content through Facebook shares and Retweets.

Then if you’re really committed to drive traffic, you’ll want to start using Youtube videos too (Google loves Youtube since it’s just Big G in the form of videos).

And last (but definitely not least important) you need to find other blogs on your same niche and start writing comments on those places.

Tip: Always try to find blogs that are below and above your knowledge level so you can learn from others but also spread what you know, this will always be rewarded!

So now that you know what traffic is, you need to understand what web analysis is.

What Is Web Analysis?

All those website visitors that land on your site now, it’s called web traffic and they generate web traffic data that you can analyze at a later time using a script designed exclusively for web tracking.

Getting back to our blog example above…

You have just started receiving comments already and guess what, you have no idea where all these people are coming from.

Sure enough, if you commented on John Doe’s site and then you received a John Doe’s comment, you know exactly where that came from.

But what happens when you receive a comment from a person that has a blog you have never even visited or heard about before?

No clue unless, you have a script for web traffic analytics and that’s exactly where Getclicky comes in!

What Is Clicky?

Note: their domain name is getclicky but apparently the company name’s just Clicky.

So having that out of the way, Clicky was designed as a web analytics tool that provides real time analytics, website stats and website traffic analytics in a web 2.0 format.

This allows you to fine point your campaigns by working more on the ones that are bringing more results (more traffic) and modifying those that are not delivering as expected.

There are many tasks you can improve when you have your web traffic analytics data down such as:

  • EPCs (earnings per click)
  • Upsells conversion
  • New subscribers
  • Video plays

If you noticed I said upsells conversion is because GetClicky also allows you to do split-testing as well, a highly used feature by every marketer that sells his/her own products.

To sum this up, you can literally tweak everything as long as it’s measurable.

All in all, Getclicky is so robust and has so many features, that it would practically take a LOT to cover just in one blog post so I created this video to give you a quick hands-on overview of the basic usage.

Clicky Video Tour

It’s a lenghty video but I do cover in detail a few things.

Clicky Premium Features

getclicky premium features
getclicky premium features

These are all the premium features contained in Clicky.

Important: The starter plan ($4.99/month) does NOT include HTTPS, Sub-users, Goals, Campaigns, Search rankings and Twitter.

Those are only available for Pro plans and above.

Clicky Price Plans

Getclicky is FREE for tracking one website (minus the premium features) so pick your website wisely.

Clicky Forums & Blog

If you need any help or are having any problems, there’s a forum were you can get all your questions asked.

Have suggestions or requests? Say so in the forum!

I don’t normally visit the blog but there are updates every now and then, of course you can check all of these out if needed.

Clicky Touch

If you’re an Apple fan, you can check out your stats with self refreshing data on the iPad, iPhone and even on the iPod touch!

Remember that Clicky gives you real-time analytics such as active users on your site, bounce rates, average session times and something I find very cool… an overall comparison percentage versus this time yesterday (you can check out this on the video I recorded).

Clicky Mobile Web App

If you own a smartphone with a WebKit-based browser (iPhone, Android, WebOS, Symbian, etc) you can check a mobile version of Clicky that mimics the look and feel of a native application on your phone.

I can’t tell you how this actually works since I own a dumbphone right now (long boring story about not losing my head over technology).

ClickyChrome for Google Chrome

If you use Google Chrome as your web browser (I highly recommend it) then you can also take advantage of this ClickyChrome extension.

I normally use many Google Chrome extensions and they save a lot of time so this could be something worth taking a look for you.

iGoogle Widget

I’ll be brutally honest with you on this one… I’m not too comfortable displaying that much information about my site.

clicky igoogle widget

But you don’t have to if you don’t want to.

I’m using this widget here that shows very basic data and it embeds already with your affiliate link.

I’ll remove the widget later since I have other things planned for my sidebar but do not think I have the widget sidebar there to brag… actually there’s nothing to brag about with those numbers! LOL

There is even more stuff about Clicky but you better check them out for yourself! ;-)

Get Clicky Here

Are you ready to give Getclicky a whirl?

If so, you can get it here: Clicky Web Analytics

You can also click on any of the images about Clicky above to check them out.

To keep this transparent you should know that this website (Marketing With Sergio) is a marketing blog and I use affiliate links where I can BUT I only recommend top notch stuff.

I do not promote everything I buy.

This is one of those things I believe everyone (who is serious enough about marketing) should at least try it out.

I use Clicky (Pro account) on a daily basis to view website traffic and check out my site analytics.

Google Analytics (in my opinion) didn’t have a very good graphic user interface (GUI) they have been improving a lot but I still believe Clicky is way more uncluttered and easier to check out anything you need right away.

You can try the free option (limited to one site) and if you really love it and want to use it on the rest of your sites (I did) then you have the option to upgrade with absolute no hassle.

If you have any questions about the service just let me know in the comments area.

Signing off…

    Hey Sergio,

Great post my man! I totally forgot about Clicky, I remember hearing about them when I started last year. Really good service if I remember correctly. And of course, recommended by Sergio, so it’s obviously a great product. :)

Just wanted to say this post was thorough and top notch. How long does it take you to write one of those posts? I’ve written easier college essays, that must take some hard work my friend. :)

Good stuff Sergio! We’ll talk soon

      Keith my man,

These blog posts take FOREVER to write (at least for me they do!).

I actually went to bed at almost 6:00am writing this one (took me 1.5 days to complete it) and I think they are worth it most of the time.

I hope they show I’m not in this “marketing thing” for a quick buck. lol

Anyway, thanks for stopping by and supporting me bro, really means a lot and I look forward to see you rise my man! ;-)

      Hey Pat,

I’m not sure about this… but I think you’re always one step ahead of me! haha

If that is correct, then that’s AWESOME man and yeah, Clicky absolutely ROCKS!

Are you in New York now, how’s the weather over there? We’re MELTING at 100°F in Mexico, this summer has been unreal so far.

Very nice blog you’ve started here and some great content that you’re posting here on Clicky, very informative.
Well done for getting started and taking action.
    Good luck in the QSC

Thank you for stopping by and glad you find this place informative.

I really like your site as well and I have that feeling that I’ll be learning from you very soon too.

Thanks Sergio, This is a really detailed overview of Clicky.
It was interesting to see your visitor information – you get loads of traffic!
I agree that google analytics is not the easiest to use and I have found the new version even harder.
There is a beta real time option available now but not that great.
I will definitely check out clicky.

Hey Kay, I’m glad you found it useful!

You’re right about GA though, as with everything new, there’s a learning curve for knowing where everything went and I’m pretty sure the GA designers were thinking in making it easier but I really don’t like it.

I still use GA on every site but on my marketing sites, the one I check stats in, is definitely Clicky.

Thanks for stopping by and good job featuring your pets for Dean’s Video Challenge LOL ;-)

Another excellent and well detailed post, not heard of Clicky before but will check it out as from your video overview it seems to provide more stats than Google.

    Thanks for sharing

Hey Paul, thank you for the awesome comments!

Clicky provides a lot of stats in a very uncluttered Web 2.0 way. If you have any doubts, just let me know, as I said in the post, it is free for basic stats and one site. ;-)

Wonderful post about Clicky… I’ve never heard about Clicky so am thrilled to have some valuable, new information. Helpful blogging tips as well… I surely understand why your posts take so long to write. You’re doing the kind of refinement and editing in your posts that most people just won’t take the time for. You should be rewarded highly for this, and I’m sure you will be.

Best to you in the challenge!

I’ve been using Clicky for a while too, and I just love it. To me, it’s so much better than Google Analytics. It’s very powerful and easy to understand.

    Great post.

Smart move Jens and 100% agreed!

I still check out Google Analytics from time to time but I’m sticking to Clicky anyway!

    Hi Sergio,
Great post. I use Google analytic and my own link tracking system on my server.
But I always like to hear about other option and you did a great job introducing GetClicky.
I think the free version is a good start if you don’t have much traffic and when the traffic grows you can upgrade.
    Thanks for the share ;-)

    1. Reply

      Hey Ehud,

That’s cool, whenever I forget to add tracking analytics to a new site (it has happened) the next best bet is the server’s internal raw tracking system.

My server has two (Awstats and Webalizer) they are not as great as Google Analytics and Clicky but you can have a good idea of what is going on with your visitors in your site.

Thanks for stopping by and glad you found this nifty tool useful. It does a lot more than what I show here but it’s impossible for me to cover it all or I would never end. ;-)

Take care and have a great day!

PS. Awesome video on passion about careers on your site.

I love Clicky – I have a Pro Plus Plan (20 websites), there was an offer on AppSumo and I got it with a great discount.

The best feature, one that I didn’t find in other analytics tools is the Rankings in Searches. I don’t know of any other tool that can display you that – the exact position you were ranking on in search engines when the visitor clicked on your website!
Of course, there are different rank tracking tools, but since personalized search in Google I don’t consider them very reliable.

    1. Reply

      Hey Sorina, that was lucky!

I’ve got a discounted offer too but it wasn’t from AppSumo (love that site!) it was something they were doing themselves and I paid for the whole year in advance to save a bit more.

Hah! I haven’t even used that feature yet but I’m going to start using the complete app a lot more since I want to get a couple of niche based sites (already have the domains).

One is going to be for local businesses and the other one will be about a hobbie, traffic is going to be built differently for these and monetization will be different as well.

So that feature is going to come in really handy, thanks for mentioning it!

I hate the personalized Google search, it’s just flawing everything now.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by Sorina, I really appreciate it and wow… that site of yours is becoming insanely cool in a very short amount of time, definitely a keeper, take care! ;-)

    Hi Sergio.
Seriously nice post. It speaks a lot about you as much as it does about your experience and expertise. It is these kinds of posts that folks like be who are not as internet savvy as you can gain some valuable tips and insights.
Your effort and detail on this post tell us all we can rely on Sergio and that it worth so much.
I will remember getclicky and jump in to the free site and play around.
    Thanks for a terrific post.

Never heard of Clicky. I use Hitsniffer on my lotto blog, and I actually pay for their service, and I think their pretty good. I really should do a post about them one day, especially because I’m an affiliate. After reading this post I feel like giving these guys a shot.

    1. Reply

      Hey Sire,

Well Clicky is free for one website and even though the cool stuff resides in the premium accounts, they still provide awesome information in the free account.

If you like doing reviews, Clicky can reward you with an extra $5 USD just for writing a review on their service (I already earned that here) but the real benefit are of course, the real time data analytics.

Hope that helps and thank you for stopping by Peter! ;-)
